Writer Interviews

WATER : WFC

Can you tell us a bit about your background?

I write WATER WFC Im from Sydney and started writing in 94 started piecing in 97 I've been writing WATER for half my life. In the beginning it was all about bombing and tagging was the obsession but as time went on I found there was better ways of getting my name up by painting pieces.

How did you choose your tag, any special meaning?

To me tags where all about the word and good letters. I wanted a word that everyone would notice and make them think, so I came up with WATER its kind of an important word, Also I liked the W its funky and off beat the A, T, E was like the ultimate letter combo and the R is a strong ending the word has good balance.

How did you get in to graffiti?

I was always down with art so at some point I started noticing tags around. The words blew my mind and the mystery behind the people that must do it. I just started tagging and I caught the virus hard as you can get it within no time everything was covered in my graffiti.

Tell us about your style and how it has developed over the years.

My style is strictly public Sydney / New York style staunch letters with funky colour schemes to match. As time's moved on its just got cleaner and more on point. Im always drawing and trying to push my style I feel like I improve so much from every piece half the challenge is just coming up with new outlines and letting my style naturally develop.

Who have been your major influences?

Bates, Swet, Atome, Spice, Amske, Dream, Dmote, Bren, Cantwo, Bensa, Fino.

Paint brand of choice

German cans but I will use anything that works well and has good colours, free ones are always good. Back in the day we used to go to Park Lee markets and get touchups and we'd rawt Dulux from K-mart and Krylons from Miter 10. Things have moved along way since then.

Cap of choice

Black dot, Blue dot, Grey hood.

What music motivates you to paint?

I'm a music freak I listen to it all day it puts me in the zone. Eazy E, Jeru The Damaja, Show Biz n Ag, Crates of Ag Dj Alkuttraz, Da Lench Mob, 7L & Esoteric, The Luniz, Digable Planets, Funk Master Flex, beatbasement.com.

Memorable mission moment

Going to Berlin in 09 and crushing the city with tags and pieces.

Any tips you're willing to share to the next generation of writers?

It's all about letters. Action speaks louder than words. Get up before you start pieces. Tags, throw ups and pieces get them all on lock.

Anything else to add?

Shouts to Amske, Teaz, Atome, Spice, Fach, Rdeam, Deb, Marz and Wiske.
