Writer Interviews

TUSK 2 : DC HB KU THE UNINVITED

Can you tell us a bit about your background?

Grew up on the Hursty Line out near Eltham in the early eighties to the mid-nineties. Crews I have been in and are still in are DC - Damage Control, Hursty Boys (The Originals), Krush Unit, The Uninvited....

How did you choose your tag, any special meaning?

I choose Tusk 2 as my street name due to the letters and flow.

How did you get in to graffiti?

I got into graffiti in 1984 through my brother and watching Beat Street and Breakdance at the theatre in Greensborough. As i was influenced by great Hurstbridge writers like Caso, Dkay, Choice, Buro, Mags, Pudge, Wisp, Spy, Zenith, Bother, Ruber, Tim, TMM (The Magic Makers). Also other city writers like Jay, Dskiz, Prime and GS 38. I also got to see Style wars at a very early age and also some pirated copies of Wild Style and The stations of the Elevated.

What is it that you love about graffiti that keeps you writing?

Innovation and the need to excel my own style. To keep producing better pieces every time I paint. To create a style that exceeds your everyday pieces..

Tell us about your style and how it has developed over the years.

At the start I didn't have a style just different tags here and there, I used to lookout for the older writers at Hurstbridge yard when I was about 11 years. My style progressed the more I painted over my late teenage years and having known most of the best writers in this city it has helped me mature my style to my own needs. That said there is no way that I have reached the peak and will continue to push myself to create a style that burns.

Who have been your major influences?

Memorable mission moment

Painting the Rosella wall with Sarg and Teks, finished our pieces and then hearing "What the fuck are you cunts doing?", Bolting back towards Richmond getting train rocks thrown at us by two big dudes, running for my life and then having to double back to the car which was near the Rosella Wall so we get back and what do we see the same big dudes on the bridge and I look up and it is Nack and Boot and there like sorry dudes we thought you were some toys slashing Nasa's peice.  Fuck.

Any tips you're willing to share to the next generation of writers?

Be Original, Be Innovative, Be Respectful, Understand the History and the people who lived, died and were arrested for this art form so your generation could have it easy.

Sorry for the fences around the yards and the cameras in the trains,  the fun times were left for the Originators. Peace.

Anything else to add?

Word up to Aeon, Nurock, Sarg and Zode my original painting partners...
